Well it is the time of the year! REGATTA TIME! Last weekend was the first of the year at RCYC. This was my second Frostbite Regatta, and we could not have asked for better weather. The plan was to have a race in the morning, followed up by two races in the afternoon!
We had a new crew, new spinnaker sheets, new video camera, and yummy Bloody Mary’s. And we only had one close miss with S-Cape. I am still not sure where they came from!
The starts were pretty good, but in retrospect, I think we had too much sail up. Once we had ripped the Genny and were forced to put up the Jib, we noticed a SURGE in speed. We stayed in the back of the fleet most of the day, but had a good time!
Our Fleet had three boats in it. It was SAD. Whatever. We took a 2nd. Got some cool glasses. Oh and I didn’t hit another boat…this was the first regatta in a while I was able to keep away from the other boats! Well, there were not that many boats TO hit. I was really looking forward to this regatta. It is the last one on the lake for a while.
We left the boat at RCYC when the race got canceled. So today we had to take it back to Chandler’s for the race. As soon as I got the motor up and running, Peter found some wind and we started hauling down. Just my luck. Read more…
Although when I did get to the boat, I did notice that the boat was infested with ants and monkeys….The ants came from the docks, the little bastards had climbed across the dock lines. They are all over the boat. And they are fast little suckers.
The monkeys might have come from Trick Monkey as retaliation for the little Olson/Melges love tap the night before…
Light winds, real light winds, and we are headed towards RCYC. So Light that Spencer actually asked to get off the boat so he could get home at a reasonable hour. None of us really thought there would be a race tonight. Woody called telling me he was on his way and I told him to turn around since there was no wind to speak of. Read more…
Well, we couldn’t do any worst than yesterday, right?
Actually we didn’t. Skiles was on the boat taking care of the helm while I just ran around trying to do everything that needed to be done.
Somehow he hit Trick Monkey before the start. Now this is the Second Melges 24 we have hit this year…I am starting to call Speedster The BigBadMelges Eater… Read more…
I was so excited! So we had a full boat. Spencer came on board for the first time, the man knows way more about racing a boat then he let on when we were emailing back and forth. At first we tried to put him up on foredeck, have Dwight fly the chute. Foredeck on the Olson is a bit harder than it sounds…it did not go well. Read more…
