2010 Frostbite Regatta!

March 10th, 2010

Well it is the time of the year! REGATTA TIME! Last weekend was the first of the year at RCYC. This was my second Frostbite Regatta, and we could not have asked for better weather. The plan was to have a race in the morning, followed up by two races in the afternoon!

We had a new crew, new spinnaker sheets, new video camera, and yummy Bloody Mary’s.  And we only had one close miss with S-Cape.  I am still not sure where they came from!

The starts were pretty good, but in retrospect, I think we had too much sail up. Once we had ripped the Genny and were forced to put up the Jib, we noticed a SURGE in speed. We stayed in the back of the fleet most of the day, but had a good time!

It was good to be on the water again.

This time the Pics are at  Nathan Eaton’s Flickr Account!

I am not sure how many people know this, but I hate the cold. And when I use the term HATE, I really do mean it. This last weekend we raced the RCYC FrostBite Regatta. Now I know, with a name like that, I should have expected a chilly day. And I did…even though the Wednesday before we were having an 80 degree day.
So, it was not actually that cold. I think we were expected to hit a high of 56 and I actually think the thermometer actually did hit that. And that would have been fine with me. I can deal with 56. I can deal with 56 and some light wind…maybe even 15 mph winds. But that is not what we had for wind. When the go-ahead was given to go out on the water, the wind was howling at 22 mph.

I can not recall sailing on a boat when the wind was this strong. Well, maybe once. Read more…
